All About Ava!
I’m writing this blog at 30,000ft on my flight from Shanghai to SFO, it comes with so many mixed emotions. I’m ready to see my family and friends in Boise but certainly can’t leave Shanghai without saying farewell to Ava who always made my life interesting and full of laughter. So this blog is dedicated to Ava Dong!

When I first arrived in Shanghai, Ava was one of the first people I got to know for two reasons: 1) she was my secretary who provided me support at my HP job, 2) but more importantly she provided me support to live in Shanghai. Because you know…. There is a language barrier and getting things done can be challenging for a Mei Guo Ren who doesn’t speak decent Mandarin. Ava helped me get my China bank account set up, find me an ayi (more than one time;-), I would even call or text message her out of the blue to translate something for me or “please call this person” because I can’t understand what they want. I must have done that 100 times.

But for me, the most important thing about Ava was her smile and laugh. During the difficult days at work I would hear Ava laugh, which always brightened my day. And frequently we would use instant messaging to find out interesting facts. One day we both started laughing so hard we had to leave the work area. Ava was always finding ways to make me laugh. Just last Wednesday, Ava and her boyfriend Pengy invited 4 of us to dinner to wish Greg and me goodbye. During our dinner Ava commented about “sucking boys”. Now the translation was obviously incorrect, and I’ll leave this to your imagination, but Ava, haha, I got you back! ;-) Ava is now working for Dell Computer and is teaching her new employees how to eat ice cream everyday!

Ava, thanks for your friendship, caring, your smile is infectious and someday our paths will cross again!
Dinner party celebrating Ava's new job with Dell!
Ava, what happened to your boot? You should really learn to keep your clothing on ;-) Ava and Pengy bought Greg and me dinner on Wedesday night before we left China. It was so much fun and very relaxing. The waiter had a really hard time using the camera so we were really lucky to get this photo! Ahh the memories!
My two favorite Zhong Guo Ren, Ava and Zhang!

Thank you for everything Ava and I'll be back again someday!
